THIS WAS A SCORE AT THE EARLY TELEVISION CONVENTION IN 2010.  IT WAS IN THE "$2 TAKES IT" BIN.  I SAW A PRINT  AD FOR THIS ON FLeAbay.  IT WAS DATED 1965, MAKING THIS ONE OF ADMIRAL'S FIRST RECTANGULAR COLOR SETS.  THE TUNER PANEL TILTS DOWN AND THE DIAL LIGHTS CAN BE SEEN FROM THE FRONT.

THE CRT WAS TOTALLY DEAD ON ALL THREE GUNS.  A LONG COOK AT 8 VOLTS BARELY BROUGHT IT UP.  I ENDED UP DOING A FULL REJUVENATION ON ALL THREE GUNS.  GREEN WAS THE WEAKEST OF THE THREE.  I THOUGHT I WOULD NEED A BRIGHTENER, BUT THAT TURNED OUT NOT TO BE THE CASE.

THE CONTROL PANEL IS NOT EASY TO REMOVE AND THE TUNER AND CONTROLS ARE A MOTHER TO CLEAN.  BE PREPARED TO SPEND LOTS OF TIME CLEANING THIS PANEL.

THE CRT HAS CATARACTS.  THESE WERE REMOVED.  I USED THE HEAT GUN METHOD.  WORD OF CAUTION,  IF YOUR SET USES THE 23EGP22 CRT, JUST REPLACE IT.  ANOTHER COLLECTOR TRIED CATARACT REMOVAL AND HIS TUBE IMPLODED.  MINE USES A 25SP22.

IN JULY OF 2011, I GOT THE PANEL CONTROLS CLEANED TO MY SATISFACTION.  I HAD TO USE Q-TIPS TO GET THE TUNER CLEAN.

ONCE I PUT THE SET ON THE RIG, ( I HAD SOFT STARTED IT IN THE GARAGE ON ITS TUBE) I HAD RASTER, BUT VERY ANEMIC VIDEO.  THE VIDEO DETECT DIODE NEEDED REPLACED.  I BOUGHT SOME IN915 DIODES AT RAT SHACK.  THESE WORK WELL FOR THIS APPLICATION.  THIS SOLVED NOT ONLY THE BAD VIDEO, BUT ALSO SYNC AND COLOR ISSUES.  WE STILL HAD VERTICAL LINEARITY ISSUES.

THIS CHASSIS USES A PAIR OF 6JM6'S FOR HORIZONTAL OUTPUT.  ONE OF THEM TOOK A SHIT DURING RESTORATION.  YOU CAN USE A SINGLE 6KD6 IN PLACE OF THE PAIR.  PICK A SOCKET, FUSE THE CATHODE AND PROCEED.  SAMS SHOWS AN ALTERNATE CIRCUIT SHOWING THIS ARRANGEMENT.  IT IS BURIED WITH THE SPEAKER ARRANGEMENT FOR THE COMBO SETS.  BLINK AND YOU MISS IT.  NOW, HERE ARE SOME PICS.

TOP OF CHASSIS.  I REPLACED ALL ORANGE DROPS, CLEAR MYLAR AND ELECTROLYTIC CAPS.  THE EARLY MYLAR CAPS TENDED TO CHANGE VALUE.

THE UNDERSIDE.  THE PC BOARDS ARE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE.

THIS SHOT IS WITH THE OLD TUBE AND BEFORE CORRECTING THE VERTICAL ISSUE.  I FOUND VOLTAGES AT THE VERTICAL OSCILLATOR AND OUTPUT LOW.  THERE WAS A 2.2 MEG RESISTOR FEEDING THIS CIRCUIT.  I REMOVED IT AND FOUND THAT IT NEARLY DOUBLED IN VALUE.  I REPLACED IT AND THAT CORRECTED THE ISSUE FOR NOW.  THE NEXT PIC SHOWS PROPER VERTICAL LINEARITY.

A SHOT ON THE ORIGINAL TUBE.

NOT TOO LONG AGO, I GOT A NEW PICTURE TUBE.  THE REPLACEMENT WAS UNEVENTFUL.  UNFORTUNATELY, THAT RESISTOR I REPLACED WENT UP IN VALUE.  THIS TIME, I GOT SOME 200M RESISTORS AT A LOCAL PARTS HOUSE.  PROBLEM SOLVED.  I PUT THE SET BACK TOGETHER AND RAN IT AS PART OF THE DISPLAY.  SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, I FOUND THE PICTURE OUT OF FOCUS AND SMELLED SOMETHING WEIRD.  THE FLY WAS TAKING A DUMP.  THE CATHODE CURRENT WAS OVER 350mA.  I FOUND A DIRECT REPLACEMENT, AND INSTALLED IT.  AFTER A FEW ADJUSTMENTS, WE GET THE MOST RECENT PIC (THIS IS THE ONE ON FACEBOOK).
