I FOUND THIS AT A SMALL ANTIQUE STORE IN POWELL, OHIO. THE SELLER POWERED IT UP AND ALL IT DID WAS HUM. I BOUGHT IT ANYWAY. WHEN I SOFT STARTED IT, I CONFIRMED THE LYTICS WERE DEAD AND WOULD NOT REFORM.
THIS SET NEEDED A FULL RECAP. AND A COUPLE OF TUBES. THE METAL INSERT ON ONE OF THE KNOBS WAS MISSING. I MADE A REPLACEMENT FROM SHEET METAL.
HALLICRAFTERS OFFERED THIS SERIES WITH EITHER A ROUND TUBE OR A RECTANGULAR ONE.
THE SAMS SHOWED A DIFFERENT VERSION OF THIS CHASSIS. SOME VERSIONS OF THIS USE TWO POWER TRANSFORMERS. THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A PRODUCTION CHANGE. THE VERTICAL OUTPUT TRANSFORMER IN MINE IS WHERE SAMS SHOWS THE SECOND POWER TRANSFORMER. THE FACTORY RIVETS ON THE VERTICAL OUTPUT CONFIRM THIS.
I ADDED FUSES TO THE POWER SUPPLY. THE 6AX5 IS NOTORIOUS FOR SHORTING AND WIPING OUT CRITICAL PARTS, LIKE POWER TRANSFORMERS. THERE WERE ALSO SOME WIREWOUND RESISTORS ENCASED IN CEMENT. THOSE WERE ALSO REPLACED.
THE LINE CORD INTERLOCK WAS BROKEN. IT WAS REPLACED WITH ONE OF THE PROPER KIND.
YOU CAN SEE ALL THE EVIL WAX CAPS. THESE WERE ALL REPLACED. I HID THE NEW LYTICS UNDER THE CHASSIS. THERE IS A COUPLATE IN THE VERTICAL SECTION. I MADE A NEW ONE. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY NOT TO USE CERAMIC DISCS IN THIS APPLICATON.
NOTICE THE 5U4 ON THE POWER TRANSFORMER. DON'T SET THE CHASSIS ON THIS SIDE.
CHASSIS AFTER RECAPPING. I CLEANED UP SOME SLOPPY CONSTRUCTION DURING RESTORATION. I DID NOT RESTUFF THE LYTICS SINCE MY REPLACEMENTS WOULD NOT FIT IN THE CANS.
A SCREENSHOT TAKEN WITH A DISPOSABLE DIGITAL CAMERA. THE BAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN IS CAMERA EFFECT.
