THIS WAS A SCORE AT THE 2010 ETF CONVENTION. IT WAS IN THE SILENT AUCTION. THIS IS SO FAR, MY ONLY MAGNAVOX. IT WAS MISSING ITS SMALL KNOBS. I HAD SOME THAT WORK NICELY. THE SAFETY GLASS LOST SOME PAINT. I WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX THAT, BUT I WILL CLEAN THE GLASS AND REATTACH THE CRT BEZEL.
THE 16GP4 CAME BACK TO LIFE AFTER A LENGTHY COOK. FOR RESTORATION I WILL USE MY 5AXP4 TEST CRT. THE 16G WILL ONLY GO BACK ON THE CHASSIS WHEN I AM SATISFIED WITH THE PERFORMANCE. NOW, ON TO THE PICS.
THE TOP OF THE CHASSIS. I REMOVED THE CRT AND HIGH VOLTAGE CAGE FOR PHOTO PURPOSES. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT MAGNAVOX OFFERED THIS CHASSIS WITH SEVERAL PICTURE TUBE OPTIONS. IT COULD ACCOMADATE A 10BP4 UP TO A 17BP4.
AS YOU CAN SEE. ALL LYTICS ARE MOUNTED UNDERNEATH THE CHASSIS. AS FAR AS RECAPPING GOES, IT'S A FAIRLY EASY SET. I DID REPLACE SOME OF THE LYTICS AND I DID RESTUFF SOME CANS. THE OTHERS REFORMED TO MY SATISFACTION. THERE WERE TWO CAPS THAT HAD BEEN A SNACK FOR MICE.
CHASSIS AFTER RECAPPING. I HAD ISSUES. THE HIGH VOLTAGE WAS ARCING. THE CAUSE WAS A BAD TUBE SOCKET. THE 1B3 WAS MOUNTED IN A WAFER SOCKET. THE SOCKET DEVELOPED A BURN TRAIL. THE FILAMENT WIRE FOR THE 1B3 ARCED THROUGH. I HAD SOME HIGH VOLTAGE WIRE FROM A JUNK CHASSIS. JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO PUT THE CHASSIS BACK IN THE CABINET, THE HORIZONTAL WENT WAY OFF FREQUENCY. TWO MICA CAPS IN THE OSCILLATOR FAILED. SOMEONE TRIED TO ADJUST THE FOCUS MAGNETS AND SCREWED THAT UP. ONCE I GOT PAST THIS, I HAD A NICE PICTURE.
I MADE A SOCKET MOUNT FROM A PANEL LIGHT SOCKET. HERE, I USED A PLASTIC TUBE SOCKET. NOW, I HAVE CLEAN HIGH VOLTAGE GOING TO THE CRT.
HERE IS ONE OF THE MANY REASONS YOU SHOULD NEVER TEST A SET WITHOUT INSPECTING IT FIRST. MICE HAD A LITTLE SNACK HERE.
