THIS WAS A SCORE AT THE 2012 EARLY TELEVISION CONVENTION.  I CHECKED THE CRT AND IT LOOKED GOOD, DESPITE GREEN BEING A LITTLE SLOW.  I WAS ALSO TOLD OF POWER SUPPLY PROBLEMS.

I DISCOVERED ONE OF THE WIRES GOING TO THE FILAMENT WAS BROKEN INSIDE THE BASE.  I BROKE OUT A SMALL SECTION AND WAS ABLE TO CRIMP ON A NEW WIRE.  THIS WOULD COME BACK TO HAUNT ME.

NOW TO THE CHASSIS.  I BEGAN REFORMING THE LYTICS.  I FOUND A 470 OHM RESISTOR BLOWN IN HALF.  I SOON FOUND OUT WHY.  THE SECOND FILTER IN THE CIRCUIT WAS SHORTED.  I BELIEVE THE PREVIOUS OWNER PLUGGED IT IN AND TRIED IT.  I COULD JUST PICTURE THE "KAPOW" AND MAGIC SMOKE.  I INSTALLED A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT UNTIL I COULD RESTUFF THE CANS.

POWERUP ON THE RIG WAS UNEVENTFUL.  AFTER TWO WEEKS OF HEAT (NOT THE MIAMI KIND) AND RAIN, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE CABINET INSIDE.  FIRST, I NEEDED TO REMOVE THE CRT AND CLEAN THE SAFETY GLASS.  IT HAD AN OIL-LIKE GOO ON IT AND THE FRONT OF THE CRT.  A GREASE CUTTING DETERGENT REMOVED THE GOO.  I THEN CLEANED THE GLASS WITH REGULAR GLASS CLEANER AND REINSTALLED THE TUBE.

ONCE I PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, I FOUND THE CRT WASN'T AS GOOD AS I THOUGHT.  I ENDED UP HAVING TO POP THE GREEN GUN WITH THE BELTRON.  I WAS HAVING BLOOMING ISSUES.  THE 3AW2 HIGH VOLTAGE RECTIFIER WAS NEAR DEAD.  I DIDN'T HAVE AN EXACT REPLACEMENT.  AFTER CHECKING THE TUBE MANUALS, I FOUND THAT A 3BT2 WILL WORK IF ONLY PINS 1 AND 12 ARE USED.

ONE DAY, I NOTICED THE SCREEN WAS DARK.  I HAD ARCING IN THE CRT.  I THINK THAT FILAMENT WIRE BURNED THROUGH AND COMPROMISED THE VACUUM.  THE CRT IS DEAD.  I HAVE SINCE FOUND A REPLACEMENT.  I HAVE THE OLD ONE TO EVENTUALLY BE REBUILT.

THE NEXT SHOTS SHOW THE CHASSIS AND A SCREEN SHOT ON THE OLD CRT.
