THIS WAS SCORED AFTER A TRIP TO CINCINNATI, OH.  THERE WAS A LISTING ON USENET (REMEMBER THAT?), WHICH WAS REPOSTED ON AUDIOKARMA (BEFORE VIDEOKARMA WAS SPUN OFF).  A COUPLE OF EMAILS LATER, AND A SATURDAY ROAD TRIP, IT WAS MINE, FOR THE BEST PRICE.  FREE.

RANDY, THE THEN OWNER, BELIEVED THIS USED THE 21AXP22 METAL CRT.  THE CTC-9 USED THE 21CYP22 (GLASS).  HE TOLD ME ABOUT HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING PROPER HIGH FREQUENCY RESPONSE IN THE VIDEO.  ANYWAY, I LET THE TUBE COOK AS I SOFT STARTED IT.  HERE WAS THE INITIAL RESULT.

THIS SHOT WAS FROM AN OVER-THE-AIR SIGNAL (REMEMBER THOSE?).  THE BLUE HAZE WAS FROM THE CAMERA.  THE ELECTROLYTICS DID NOT REFORM FROM THE SOFT START, SO I HAD A HUMBAR.  I WILL REPLACE ALL ELECTROLYTICS.  I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACE ANY MYLAR CAPS.

THE CRT TESTED NEAR DEAD.  A COOK BROUGHT IT BACK.  THE 21CYP22 USED A VERY INEFFICIENT RED PHOSPHOR.  THE RED GUN WAS WEAKEST.  THE PICTURE ON THIS TUBE WILL NOT BE AS BRIGHT AS IT WOULD BE ON A SET THAT USED A 21FBP22 OR 21FJP22.  I WILL ALSO ADD PROPER FUSING.

THE CABINET HAS THE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ONE WOULD EXPECT.  IT ALSO HAS A PHOTOFINISH.  I WILL CLEAN IT AND LEAVE IT AT THAT.  BELOW ARE SHOTS OF THE UNRESTORED CHASSIS.

HERE IS A SALESMAN'S BROCHURE FOR MY SET.  THIS WAS (AND STILL IS) COURTESY OF ED REITAN, WHO PASSED AWAY IN 2015.  ED HAD GIVEN ME PERMISSION TO USE THIS IMAGE.  HIS WEBSITE IS NOW LINKED TO THE EARLY TELEVISION FOUNDATION WEBSITE.

BELOW IS ANOTHER GLORIOUS SHOT BEFORE RESTORATION.

IN 2010, I DECIDED TO GET THIS BACK INTO SERVICE.  I HOOKED IT UP TO MY TELEMATIC TEST RIG.  A SOFT START NETTED THE SAME RESULTS.  THE CRT WAS AGAIN NEAR DEAD.  I LET IT COOK AT 8 VOLTS FOR ROUGHLY A DAY.  THAT BROUGHT IT BACK.

I DECIDED TO TRY REFORMING THE LYTICS WITH A BENCH SUPPLY.  ALL BUT ONE GOT WITHIN SAFE SPECS.  I TEMPORARILY WIRED IN A REPLACEMENT.

THEN, I CHECKED ALL TUBES.  I HAD A FEW WITH LEAKAGE AND REPLACED THEM.  THIS SOLVED A FEW ISSUES.  I ALSO RETOUCHED THE VIDEO IF ALIGNMENT.  THIS HELPED THE HIGH FREQUENCY RESPONSE.  AT THIS TIME, I FUSED THE CATHODE OF THE HORIZONTAL OUTPUT TUBE (6DQ5).

  NOW, MORE PICS.

FIRST, IS THE PIC OF THE CHASSIS WITH THE TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT LYTIC INSTALLED.  NEXT IS THE SET ON THE TELEMATIC.  THE PICTURE ON THE RIG ISN'T THE GREATEST, BUT IS BETTER THAN THIS PIC SHOWS.

TO USE A TEST RIG WITH CHASSIS CTC2B (21CT55) THROUGH CTC-9, YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE AN ANODE CONNECTOR.

HERE ARE THE RESULTS OF THE 2010 EFFORT.  FOR A WHILE, THIS WAS THE OLDEST KNOWN WORKING COLOR SET IN WARREN, OH.  THAT HAS SINCE CHANGED.  THERE IS A CTC-7 WHICH I RESTORED NOW WORKING.

REMEMBER WHAT I SAID ABOUT MYLAR CAPS?  BULLSHIT.  THE BROWN (MAROON) AND EARLY ORANGE DROPS HAVE A TENDENCY TO GET LEAKY OR CHANGE VALUE.  I RECAPPED THE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL SECTIONS WHEN I REPLACED LYTICS THAT DIED SINCE THEN.

AS OF 2015, THE CRT'S RED GUN HAS JUST ABOUT HAD IT.  WHEN I REPLACE THE TUBE, I WILL GET MORE SHOTS.

NEW UPDATE:  I FINALLY RESTUFFED THE LYTICS AND RECAPPED THE REST OF THE SET.  THE TUBE IS NOT TOAST.  I HAD EXCELLENT RED RASTER AFTER FINISHING THE RECAP.  NEW PIC TO COME SOON.
