I SCORED THIS IN THE EARLY 90'S AS I RODE ON A CALL WITH A NOW DEFUNCT SHOP IN WARREN, OH. THE CUSTOMER DIRECTED US TO HIS BASEMENT. I SNAGGED THIS ONE. HE HAD SEVERAL OTHER TV SETS AND RADIOS HE WANTED TO GET RID OF. THIS IS THE FIRST BLACK AND WHITE ROUND TUBE SET I EVER OWNED.
I DID TWO DUMB THINGS. I REFINISHED THE CABINET. I WILL LEAVE IT AS-IS. THE SECOND DUMB THING I DID WAS POWER IT UP. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, I GOT A PICTURE (A SHITTY ONE). THERE WAS NO MAGIC SMOKE.
HERE IS THE CHASSIS BEFORE ANY RESTORATION. ALL PAPER AND ELECTROLYTIC CAPS WERE REPLACED. I FOUND SEVERAL INCORRECT RESISTORS IN THE VERTICAL SECTION. THOSE WERE REPLACED WITH CORRECT VALUES. I ADDED FUSES TO THE POWER SUPPLY.
CHASSIS AFTER RECAPPING. I RESTUFFED THE ELECTROLYTIC CANS. ANY QUESTIONABLE TUBES WERE REPLACED. I DID FINAL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE 5AXP4 TEST TUBE. ONCE I WAS SATISFIED, I PUT THE 12LP4 BACK ON. I ENDED UP REPLACING THE HORIZONTAL OUTPUT TUBE AND DAMPER.
HERE IS THE END RESULT. THE PICTURE IS BETTER THAN THIS SHOT SHOWS. THE TUNER KNOB HAD CHANNEL NUMBER INSERTS, WHICH ARE LONG GONE. THIS SET PRODUCES GOOD SOUND. FOR NOW, THIS IS DONE.
